We knew it would happen, and sadly we told ourselves it would not be Yamaha that would produce a product that has been wanted for over 10 years. The Canadian company Panthera motorsports have made what everyone has been dreaming and wishing for. Yamaha FINALLY has an electric start on its 2 stroke bikes. With the rock solid and cool running YZ250 Powerplant that is virtually unchanged since almost 99 (Yes some cases and such changed by then). It may very well be the answer to the ultimate hard enduro bush bike weapon.

We are die hard Yamaha riders and fans, we always have been. Yes the bike is not the lightest, it does not have the best brakes, hydro clutch or cool styling the newer bikes show. However, the engine, hands down. runs MUCH cooler than the European bikes such as KTM, Husqvarna. and rarely needs a fan on it to keep going to the top of the mountains.

One thing about weight, and mass is its properties, with the heavier engine, Yamaha seems to be able to dissipate the heat much better than KTM or husq’s 2strokes can with the extra aluminum in the cylinder. While the euro bikes handle amazing, they just seem to overheat at any hill they look at with clutching on their super easy Hydraulic pull systems. Ask anyone with a KTM 300, you look at them they will overheat, even if you don’t touch the clutch when climbing.

We can’t wait to get our hands on the Electric start for a YZ250. All those 05 and up aluminum models are going to be selling like hotcakes on the used market at $3000 CDN a pop. Add on a $1k USD electric starter and battery mod, you have yourself one hell of a bush weapon that will beat out any of those $10k+ euro bikes. Plus bikes parts are DIRT CHEAP and cross over easily.
