The Grand Prix de Snow was a huge success thanks to our great sponsors and everyone who came out, rode and got dirty. The warm weather made it more of a Grand Prix de Mud by the end of the day but made for excellent conditions for spectators and riders. We ended up having 150 registered riders take part in the day which is an amazing turnout especially in February!
The day started off with riders getting registered and out onto our track for some practice 10 AM – 12 PM. The condition of the track was changing by the minute with every degree it warmed up but it didn’t keep the smiles off the riders faces who were excited to be riding in February. There was a great mix of bikes on the course. Everything from Husqvarna’s great looking 2017 lineup, to vintage Canam’s, an old Ski-doo whose owner’s co-pilot was his Bulldog, to a Ural tearing up the track and then dirtbikes old and new.
At noon we broke for lunch to prepare for the afternoon’s fun races. Burgs and dogs were served up by the Town Moto #dogzone crew. Extreme weather motorcyclist Oliver Solaro also gave a talk on winter camping. Follow the link and check out some of his videos on his trips including a two week 8000 km trip to Fort Severn from Owen Sound in the middle of winter.
As if racing in the mud and snow would not be difficult enough, all the races were LeMans style starts with riders having to run to their bikes and start them. It was a fun way to get started and help spread the field out. We ran a number of classes from Experienced Studded tires to Vintage to the Recreational class for anyone fairly new to riding in such conditions.
After the races had finished we handed out trophies to the winners of the classes and great prizes to all raffle winners thanks to our generous sponsors. Overall the vibe of the event was super fun and positive and everyone left with a huge smile on their face.
We have lots of people to thank for making the event a success! A big thank you to Husqvarna for getting behind the event as our title sponsor and bringing their bikes out for people to demo.
Thanks to all of our generous sponsors: Husqvarna Motorcycles, Biltwell Inc., Red Wing Boots, Roland Sands Design, Deus Ex Machina, Brixton, Stance Socks, Joe Rocket, Speed and Strength, Treadwell Clothing, Moto Revere, Town Barber, Fast Times Magazine, Dual Sport Plus, Sturgess Cycle, The Moto Social who donated prizes or helped to promote the event.
Thanks to The Mohawk Inn for hosting the event and being nothing but helpful, accomodating and supportive of our community.
And a big thank you everyone who came out, rode, had fun and shared a laugh as well as all our friends who donated their time to help set it all up. Couldn’t have done it without you!
